What’s in Style: When choosing wedding fashions, today’s style offers beauty through simplicity. Ethereal elegance is in. From flowing fabrics to a dewy, fresh face, less is more, more, more. Today’s dresses are straight and straightforward, with attention to the detail. The classic A-line silhouette is considered a wonderful selection for beach weddings, but when it comes down to the true perfect dress, what matters most is what the bride-to-be has always dreamed of wearing.

Trends to watch: The couture colors coming down the aisles in 2008 include
vivid citrus colors such as bright greens, pale yellows and dazzling pinks, as well as dramatic oceanic hues like azure or vibrant turquoise. Silver is also a haute hue for 2008. For bridesmaids, fas
hion is moving forward by focusing on the classic Hollywood-style yesteryear. Gowns that could walk the red carpet (in the roaring 20s or 2020) are all the rage.

The Mane Event: Hairstyles on the day of a big event need to reflect each person’s personality and personal style, while being able to handle the weather if the event is an outdoor one. Here is some helpful advice to consider for tres-chic tresses:

  • See a professional hairstylist a month or so before the big event. Play with a few styles before deciding on a final look. Keep in mind the following: Will this style hold up in an outdoor or warm setting, or over the course of several hours? Does this style match the formality or informality of my dress or gown?

  • Consider decorative barrettes to add a touch of fun or glamour.
  • If you color your hair, touch up your existing hair color two weeks before the wedding, not the day before just to avoid any unexpected problems.
  • Prepare a “hair emergency kit” for reception touch-ups. Hairspray, barrettes, bobby pins, and a brush or comb are all a must.

Best Face Forward: Choosing the perfect makeup is always the most difficult, yet fun portion of preparing for a wedding or other big event. It’s always a smart idea to experiment with the look of beauty items in your big event setting and take test photos before the big day arrives. Here are some quick tips for looking your best:

  • Treat wedding party participants to a day at the spa or salon before the big day.

  • Apply a tiny dab of concealer to the inner corners of your eyes to make you look more awake and vibrant.

  • Keep eye shadow light to medium. Dark shades can look harsh in photos.

  • Wear waterproof mascara and any other long-lasting, waterproof products.
